Choosing a lure for Early Season and Pre-Rut

Early Season
Typically Sept-Oct

Tink’s Trophy Buck Urine is un excellent choice to use during the early season and also during the pre rut. It is one the best all season lures a hunter can use. In the early season bucks are in bachelor groups, they feed and travel together. When a buck smells another buck that he does not recognize he will seek out the new buck in the area. Each buck will gain information from each other, things like age and dominance. Other lures that are effective during this period are non estrous lures like Tink’s® #1 Doe P, Tink ’s® Draw 2 and Tink’s® All Season Smokin’ Sticks.

Pre Rut
Typically Oct-Nov

Pre-Rut is when you start seeing sign post markings from bucks, like scrapes under overhanging branches, buck rubs on trees or a buck scentchecking a doe to see if she is in estrous. You may also see buck sparring with each other. The Pre-Rut and the Rut can and will hit at different times throughout the country. This is when YOU HAVE TO READ THE DEER SIGN!

Rut
Typically Nov-Dec

The Rut is when a buck no longer tends to his scrapes and starts chasing doe. In different regions of the country most doe in the area come into estrous around the same time. Buck will let their guard down by doing things they would not normally do such as crossing a field in the middle of the day. This is absolutely the best time to see a big whitetail buck coming to your lure or a drag line.

Post Rut
Typically Dec-Jan

Post Rut is by far the hardest time of the season to hunt. The deer’s senses are at their sharpest due to hunting pressure. The buck are run down from the rut and battling over doe to breed. During this time period bucks will go back to feeding and resting to get ready for the winter. Food and rest are the priority.

Early Season Lures
Tink’s Draw 2
Tink’s Draw 2 means that it attracts both buck and doe. It is a curiosity lure and deer cannot resist checking out the new smell. The lure appeals to both young and old deer.
Tink’s #1 Doe-P
Doe urine puts deer at ease and is a great cover scent. Tink’s #1 Doe-P is 100% natural doe urine.
Tink’s Trophy Buck Urine
In Early Season, buck travel together in bachelor groups. When a buck smells another buck that he does not recognize, he will seek out the new buck in the area to learn more about that buck, including his dominant status.

Pre Rut Lures
Tink’s Trophy Buck
When a dominant buck smells another buck he will want to show his dominance or run the intruder off. This is Mother Nature’s way of making sure the strongest in the heard do the breeding. This is also the perfect time to rattle in bucks or use a grunt call. A buck will circle downwind of your calling location and try to smell the other “buck”. If you are hunting a scrape or making a mock scrape, Tink’s Trophy Buck Urine will leave the presence of another buck at the scrape.
Tink’s #69 Doe-In-Rut
Remember, you should read the deer sign for your area. If the scrapes are no longer being attended by the buck (leaves in them) or you see a buck chasing a doe this is a perfect time to put out some Tink’s #69 Doe-In-Rut Buck Lure.

Rut Lures
Tink’s #69 Doe-In-Rut
Deer hunter’s #1 pick for hunting during the rut. Tink’s #69 Doe-In-Rut Lure is a quality controlled formula, made from 100% natural doe estrous urine which is specifically formulated to keep the product at its peak level of performance. Use with drag rags, boot pads, Tink’s Scent Bombs, or in scrapes.
Tink’s Trophy Buck
During this time period bucks try to avoid each other. Their focus is finding a doe to breed. Here is where a drag can better your odds. Apply both Tink’s #69 and Tink’s Trophy Buck Urine to a drag rag and walk to your stand. This will simulate a buck following a doe in estrous.

Post Rut Lures
READ THE SIGN
Just like the deer during this time period the hunters must be at their sharpest. You must read the sign to choose the correct deer lure. If you are seeing signs of a second rut because some doe did not get bred during the first rut, then try Tink’s #69 Doe-In-Rut. If no rut activity is seen then try any non estrous deer lure like Tink’s Draw 2 or Tink’s #1 Doe-P.
A helpful tip here is find the food and you will find the deer. They have to eat. Then plan your strategy for the hunt and the proper deer lure to apply for the hunt.
